Slow Horses
Episode 4 Preview And Review
Episode 4 of Slow Horses begins with Lamb collecting the team’s phones and throwing them down the drain. They must be a nightmare now, and it comes from their going to the coordinates in Brixton. Louise realizes that the ultimate goal is to meet at Blake’s grave, and they set off, avoiding Diana and her MI5 men.
So why did Curly kill Zeppo? It turns out that she spoke to Peter Simmonds just before this, who informed her after his threats in the last episode at Hobden’s house. Hasan is still alive but spiraling out of control with this botched operation.
Talking to her “boots on the ground”, Diana learns that her man is dead and that the Slow Horses were there before them. When Diana is working for First Lady Ingrid, she tells Diana to clear it up. Part of that comes from cleaning up the streets and stopping the Slow Horses.
Louise, Min and Cartwright find themselves at a crossroads, both figuratively and literally. As they drive, they consider giving up or following the Lamb’s plan. Tracking down 35 different vehicles that could hold Diana Hassan, the Son of Albion wonders what to do with their hostages – and the heat is about to destroy them in his own personal hell.
All our characters begin to play a dangerous game of cat and mouse, our gang splits into duos, scatters across London and tries to evade MI5.
River Cartwright picks up Roddy, who is doing some research on Alan Black (the undercover man who was killed), but Cartwright takes a detour and goes to the hospital, intending to check on Sid and make sure he’s okay. After discovering that he is of course still alive but in rough shape, Cartwright is forced to flee and rushes through the hospital to safety with MI5 hot on his heels.
Meanwhile, Lamb hides out at Catherine’s place, but unfortunately on the way out, they’re stopped by Diana’s thugs – stopped by Nick – who are outside.
As they get Lamb into the car and drive away, Catherine suddenly brandishes her gun – thanks in part to Lamb, who distracts them by sneezing, and asks her friend for a tissue.
With the fugitives gone and Cartwright still on the run – while the Sons of Albion are still debating what to do with Hassan – everything is left open for the next episode.
Episode Review
In fact, this episode feels like one big game of cat and mouse, with Diana trying to stop the Slow Horses while they try to uncover the truth themselves. Not only that, but they try to track down Hasan, who spends the entire episode in the trunk of a car as his captors mercilessly argue over what to do with him.
Finally, this wraps up the whole episode – the two sides are at loggerheads – and we’re left with a 40-minute run as the group breaks up and finds themselves on the run.
After last week’s chapter, it felt like it took a bit of a back seat, not really moving the story forward but just leaving us here for the ride. Hours are a bit longer (we all know Apple is famous for their TV shows), but there’s plenty of time to work up an appetite and get fit for the week ahead.
