Rocky Balboa plot summary
Now 50 years old, Rocky lives a simple life as the owner of a small Italian restaurant after his wife Adrian died of cancer. He is haunted by loneliness, memories of his wife and a broken relationship with his son.
Rocky’s fortunes change when a computer simulation suggests that a younger version of him can defeat current heavyweight champion Mason Dixon. The simulation inspires Rocky to get back into the ring, and Dixon wants to prove to the world that he’s no match for Rocky’s strength.
How is Rocky after Adrian’s death?
Rocky tries to stay away from depression as he misses being with his wife and son. He opened a new Italian restaurant named after his late wife. Rocky entertains his patrons and tells them stories from his past. Rocky’s relationship with his son Robert has soured over the years and they are no longer in touch.
The only person by Rocky’s side is his brother-in-law Paulie, who is dealing with his own struggles.
Rocky meets Marie, a woman he helped decades ago. Marie has a teenage son, Stevenson (nicknamed Steps), born out of wedlock. Rocky enjoys spending time with Marie and Steps because it gives him a sense of family.
Rocky’s next match has been determined
Mason “The Line” Dixon is the current undefeated heavyweight champion. Despite being a champion, he never lived up to the fame of the likes of Rocky and Apollo Creed. Computer simulation shows that Rocky will win by knockout over Dixon.
Confused, Dixon searches for a way to find respect and fame as a champion. On the other hand, Rocky, who is impressed with the results, wants to get back into the ring. A match is set after Dixon’s camp announces their intention to fight Rocky.
Training begins
Rocky assures everyone he can pull it off, but Robert doesn’t believe his father stands a chance. He confronts Rocky and tries to discourage him. But Rocky reprimands her with a strong message that hits her to the heart. The next day, both men meet at Hadrian’s tomb and reconcile there. With his people by his side, Rocky is ready for anything.
Rocky begins training with his old coach, Duke. Duke uses unique training methods to prepare Rocky both physically and mentally. It’s not long before Rocky gets in shape to face Dixon.

Does Rocky beat Dixon?
Dixon worries Rocky with his skills in the first round. However, Rocky returns to his classic form for the second time and Dixon realizes that it will not be easy to break the 50-year-old. Both men give the performance of a lifetime, giving each other an intense beating. The final round ends with both men exhausted and still standing. Rocky praises Dixon’s performance.
Dixon is declared the winner by split decision as Rocky exits the ring. A grateful Rocky returns to Adrian’s grave as the film ends and pays his respects.
