Episode Recap
Outer Banks Season 2 Episode 6 begins with some big news about John B. All charges have been dropped and he is free. However, officials want one more thing – a statement about Ward Cameron.
From facing a death sentence to being home and dry, John B returns home to a warm welcome from his friends. The only person not there is Sara, who is still missing after her ordeal with Rafe.
Sarah is fine anyway and she’s with Topper right now. Relieved of her boredom, she finally returns to reunite with the Pogues.
Meanwhile, Kiara talks to Papa and admits that she’s had weird feelings since they slept together. Papa doesn’t feel the same way, but Kie wants to go back to being friends. He’s clearly crushed, but swallows his pride and braves the dreaded friend zone.
Meanwhile, Ward Cameron finds himself in a scam when officers show up with a warrant to search his location. They also look for Rafe, especially given the fingerprint records they have.
Given that Ward lied to them, and officials can confirm, it doesn’t look good for the family. He texts Rafe and tells him not to go home.
Instead, he goes to see Papa’s father. He’s pretty badly beat up, with a big old bump on his head. Tanni’s clue is the crux of the matter here, eventually telling Papa that he needs to visit his great-grandmother Mee-Mau for answers.
Papa goes alone and shows him the key. As soon as he did, the woman flinched and told him to take the key. It seems that Cecilia and Denmark are actually part of their family tree. Mee-Maw kept all of this a secret to make sure they didn’t suffer the same fate as Denmark all those years ago.
Meanwhile, Ward turns to see Rafe. He hands her a wad of cash and tells her to go to Wilmington. He has to go to his old office and follow a whole series of different areas from there to a flight.
John B and the gang head over to see Limbrey and try to negotiate a key. They ask the Pope to give the key in exchange for the tape. They finally agree to a deal… but John B actually tricks them with a fake key.
Speaking of trickery, Rafe is found en route by Shoupe in the river. Along with many officers, they eventually arrest Rafe and take him into custody.
John B goes to the station with the audio tape incriminating Ward Cameron. Realizing that this man is going to prison, the children scream and rejoice at this turn of events. Of course, given that she’s stuck on both sides of this conflict, it’s a difficult position for Sarah to be in.
As the police go to take Ward away, the kids show up to watch Ward get arrested. Ward, who was on the boat with him, gets in and blows himself up. Sarah cries out in anguished, blood-curdling tears as she watches her father die.
Episode Review
Well, that was a shocking result! With Ward dead and his son in jail, that pursuit seems to have ended. What about gold? Who will take this house in the end?
There’s still the key and these little puzzles that we’ve been given throughout the season. This helps to scratch the season 1 treasure hunt itch, which will hopefully become more prominent in future seasons.
What’s clear, however, is that Outer Banks continues to deliver teenage drama with enough action and intrigue to keep it interesting.
How will Sarah react now that her father was killed? We’ve already seen that the kids are a bit nervous about the possibility of shouting and cheering, so now it seems that he’s withdrawn from others.
With three episodes still to go, it’s clear that this conflict isn’t over.
