On The Line Movie Explained, What is the significance of the film’s finale?

Plot Synopsis on line

Mel Gibson stars in writer-director Romuald Boulanger’s swashbuckling thriller On The Line.

The Lethal Weapon actor plays Elvis Cooney, an arrogant and narcissistic radio talk show host.

Dylan, of course, doesn’t see the funny side, but instead of throwing a tantrum and leaving the station, he continues to work with his prankster boss.

The night takes a sinister turn when Elvis starts his show and a man named Gary walks in. It’s not unusual — people regularly call into the show to talk to their favorite radio host — but Gary is no different than any other caller. .

After turning on Elvis’ switchboard operator Mary Gary, the talk show host is given some very disturbing information. Gary tells Elvis that he broke into his house and kidnapped his wife and daughter after poisoning his guard dogs. He tells Elvis that if they take him off the air, he will hurt his family, so the shock jock must stay on the line to calm down the kidnapper and save the people he loves so much.

So why did Gary do it? And what is the significance of the film’s conclusion? Let’s take a closer look at this surprising new film.

Why did Gary kidnap Elvis’ family?

Before Mary is hired as Elvis’ switch, we learn that a woman named Lauren has the same role. She quit her job after being subjected to Elvis’ cruel pranks, and she was so hurt that Lauren later committed suicide.

Gary, who we discover works as a security guard at the radio station, was friends with Lauren and wants revenge on Elvis for what he did to him. To make Elvis suffer, he kidnaps his family and threatens to hurt them. He also forces Elvis to confess his affair with Mary so that the wife will be exposed to his marital lies.

  Does Gary kill Elvis’ family?

He tells Elvis to jump, if he doesn’t he will kill his wife and daughter.

Unfortunately, Gary has a drone circling the building, so he knows their ruse. Elvis thinks Gary killed his family after hearing two gunshots on the other end of the line.

However, this is not the case at all, as Gary later reveals that they are still alive and being held by him somewhere in the radio station. Not only that, but according to Gary, they’re also wired for time bombs.

Elvis only has 40 minutes to find Gary and save his family before the bombs go off. With the help of a stressed Dylan, Elvis then goes through the radio building to locate them. During their search, they find the body of another radio host, Justin, and make another gruesome discovery when they find the hanging body of one of the building’s security guards.

Do Elvis and Dylan find Gary?

Bruce, a member of the LAPD SWAT team, gets a call telling Elvis that his wife and daughter are wearing bomb vests on the terrace. Gary agrees to save their lives if Dylan takes their place. The intrepid intern agrees and the vests are deactivated by Gary and then brought to Dylan, who then puts them on.

Bruce tries to convince Gary to surrender, but his wish does not come true and he is shot and killed by the madman.

Gary then drops the detonator, which horrifies Dylan, but thankfully it doesn’t explode.

Why? Because the bomb vest was fake! Not only that, but everything about that day was fake because it was all set up by Elvis for another sick gig. Everyone was in on it except Dylan, who thought his life and the lives of Elvis’ family were in danger!

  Who gets the last laugh?

It’s clear that Dylan is not happy with Elvis or the people involved in the prank. When Elvis tells his audience about the events that have just happened, he is less happy.

But then Elvis’ prank backfires. A saddened Dylan leaves the room and falls and cracks his neck as he walks down the stairs. Elvis witnesses this tragedy and is shocked by this turn of events and decides to quit his job.

But he faces a surprise like us. The taxi driver turns around and we see Dylan at the wheel. The crew hired him to prank Elvis, so even though the master prankster thought he was controlling the prank at the supposed intern’s expense, it was actually his crew that was pranking him.

What is the significance of the film’s finale?

Maybe the joke was on Elvis, but so were we. Early in the movie, we learn about Elvis’ affinity for pranks and see him pretend to kick Dylan out. We later discover that Lauren killed herself because of her cruel pranks at his expense, and we see Dylan “die” as a result of a kidnapping game that Elvis thought he had complete control over.

If you weren’t aware of the movie’s ending before watching it, you were definitely drawn in by the events that unfolded. They certainly seemed very real, but in the end they tricked us into believing things that never happened.
