Episode No 8 Recap And Review 




Firefly Lane season 2 episode 8 begins with Tully being escorted by a police officer. Kate and Johnny refuse to talk to him. He is taken to the police station and shot. Reporters find out about his DUI and the fact that he had a teenage passenger at the time of the accident. They wait for him in front of the police station and harass him with questions.


  After arriving home, Tully tries to contact Kate and her family, but no one answers or returns her calls. On the other hand, his agent tries to soften the issue. He asks Tully to take advantage of the situation, but he refuses.  



 After numerous failed attempts, Tully visits Kate at home and refuses to leave until she talks to him. Johnny opens the door for her and tells her about Marah’s condition. She says Kate doesn’t want to see or talk to her. Tully tries to get past him, but she calls him out on his irresponsible behavior and closes the door in his face.

  Tully doesn’t give up and continues to leave messages for Kate. Sometime later, Keith texts Tully to meet him at his place. Tully was relieved and immediately set off. He is met by Marah, who works better. Marah sent him a message to make things right with his mother.  

  They sit down to talk and Tully tells her side of the story. Kate tells him she’s been cleaning up her own mess for thirty years. She tells Tully that she is being too selfish, Tully agrees and apologizes profusely, but Kate refuses to forgive her. He tells Tully that he can’t watch because of the mistake he made with Marah. He decides to end their 30-year friendship




  1980

  The news station hires a focus group to find out why ratings are down 15%, and Tully’s boss thinks it’s because she’s a woman at the helm of the show. The focus group is very critical of Tully and they think he’s got it all wrong. His boss gives him three weeks to improve the ratings or lose his job as weekend anchor. The focus group happens to Tully, and he tries to make changes to attract more viewers.


  Kate offers to stay behind with Tully and help him find a solution, but Tully asks her to go on her date. They talk about the date in code because they don’t want Johnny to hear them. He can still hear them and tells Kate that it’s okay if she wants to go on a date.  



  Theo comes to their meeting, but he decides to stay with Kate so he can be with Tully if she needs him. They watch a movie in the office while Tully does his autograph. He gets distracted and accidentally causes a fire in the office. Kate and Theo try to stop the fire.



After the firemen arrive, Johnny soon arrives at the station and asks Tully to apologize to the boss because he’s upset and she’s already on his bad side. Tully refuses to apologize and claims he did nothing wrong. The boss arrives and Kate takes care of the fire and apologizes. The boss fires Kate and Tully tries to protest and take responsibility, but Kate won’t let her.




  1970


  Kate and Tully are excited to be teenagers, and Tully thinks this year will be their year. Kate tells him that she wants to be professional and doesn’t want their relationship to affect the AV club.

  To celebrate the start of their junior year in the AV club, one of the students suggests they go swimming in the school’s swimming pool. Lisa warns them that there is no savior, but Tully convinces Kate to join the rest. At the pool, Eugene takes pictures of Kate and Tully in their underwear and posts them all over the school.


  The principal calls Tully and Kate into his office and asks them to apologize at the party. Tully refuses to apologize and demands that Eugene apologize for taking pictures of her without consent, but the Headmaster tells her that they are walking around naked. Men! Even men in the 70s could still get away with this behavior, which is heartening!

  The principal refuses to punish Eugene and decides to arrest the girls on Saturday and clean the girls’ locker room. Tully argues back and stands her ground and in the end they get punished and kicked out of the AV club. Kate is angry at Tully because she let her anger get the best of her, which resulted in their termination.


  Eugene tries to apologize for his hand in stopping them, but Kate doesn’t let him off the hook and gives him a piece of her mind.  





 Episode Review

  As we reach the final episode of Season 1, we finally get answers about what happened to the girls’ friendship. Many of our parents can understand and even empathize with what Kate is going through. Tully made a series of bad decisions that night that nearly killed her daughter. She has every right to be angry with Tully, and this breakup isn’t easy for her either. Put yourself in her shoes, how would you react if a friend put your child’s life in danger?


  Throughout her life, Tully never felt the need to apologize, and the people around her, like Kate, ensured this behavior. But this time the price was too high.
