Firefly Lane Season 2
Episode No 1 Recap And Review
Firefly Season 2 begins with a flashback to 1975 when Tully receives a letter from Kate. It had been five months since the last time the girls saw each other, after Bulud was arrested and Tully was taken to live with her grandmother. In one of their many letters to each other, Tully tells Kate that she found a picture of an old man with her mother, and that he thinks that man is her father. He says he plans to confront his mother and ask about his father.
He visits his mother in prison and asks her about the picture. His mother is not happy to hear that Tully wants to learn about his father. She refuses to tell him anything and tells him to leave her alone.
Currently, Kate is hosting her father’s wake. Sean asks if she wants to talk to Tully about what happened, but she says no. Marah says that even after the accident, everyone keeps asking about Tully. It brings up the day they found out that Johnny had crashed in Iraq.
In another flashback, we learn what happened on that fateful day, when Tully rushed to buy Kate an ice cream and ended up with legal documents at the supermarket. He is being sued for breach of contract at work. He arrives at Kate’s house and she searches for his passport so he can fly and meet Johnny at the hospital in German. Tully offers to rent him a plane so he doesn’t have to wait for a plane ticket.
They fly to the hospital, but are stonewalled because they are not close relatives. Luckily, the nurse recognizes Tully and lets them in to see Johnny. Kate is stunned to see Johnny lying in a hospital bed, and Tully tries to comfort her. The doctor tells them that he may have brain damage and that they should wait until he wakes up before really knowing his prognosis.
In a flashback to 1985, Tully finds his mother arrested while covering a story. He bails her out and takes her to a hotel. He calls Kate to tell her what he’s doing, but Kate is busy distracting Johnny. This is the same thing that happened in 1975 when he told Kate about the prison visit. Kate was distracted by her new friends. Cloud asks her for a snack and uses this opportunity to steal Tully’s wallet and leave the hotel room.
In the present, Tully receives a call from Justin Jordan, who wants to be his new agent and help him handle the case.
In another flashback to 1985, Kate feels uncomfortable after an internship at work, when Charlie makes a rude comment about how she met Johnny. She asks Johnny why he’s dating her, and he assures her that he always knew they’d be together. Later, Tully returns home and is angry that Kate has been ignoring her since she started dating Johnny.
They fight and Kate decides to cancel her date with Johnny and stay with Tully. They always find a way to make up, like they did in 1975 when Tully ran away from her grandmother’s house and came to Kate. He asked her to run away with him and help him track down his father.
In the present, Johnny wakes up and Kate is happy that she’s finally passed out. He leaves the hospital room to let the doctors run more tests. In the hallway, he overhears Tully talking to his lawyers. Tully tells him that he is owed ten million dollars for breaking the contract. Kate tells him she won’t go through it alone. They return to the hospital room and Charlie appears while talking to Johnny, the gruff intern they worked with earlier. She is now dating Johnny. The episode ends with an accident six months later.
Episode Review
This episode an just one question we’ve had since last season’s finale. We know Johnny is alive and on the road to recovery. However, we have no clue about the biggest mystery in last season’s cliffhanger, what happened to Tully and Kate’s relationship?
We have a new mystery about the accident, who got hurt and if it has anything to do with the soul mate accident. It will be interesting to find out, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see!
