Locke And Key Season 3 Episode 1 Review, Emilia Jones

Episode Review

Locke and Key Season 3 Episode 1 begins with the snow globe falling. Nina doesn’t think too much and picks it up from the floor. When he looks inside, two unconscious women – Dorothy and Ada – are watching from inside. They’re the ones who downloaded it in the first place, and it’s not good news.

Nina shows the snow globe to Bode and Kinsey, believing it to be nothing more than a “cool antique” as Kinsey puts it. This whole snow globe thing just distracts the family, revealing that it’s been two months since Tyler left and none of them have heard from him since.

For now, we’re onto more exciting things…like wedding planning. Kinsey believes that Nina should ask Josh to go out with her since their chemistry from last season is brewing, but he rushes away like a shy schoolboy.

Later that evening, Bodie hears whispers echoing in the kitchen. Intrigued, he listens carefully and realizes that it is coming from the refrigerator. It turns out that there is another key in the ice cream compartment.

At the hint of a snowflake, Nina immediately realizes that it works with a snow globe. They decide not to wait for Kinsey (stopping the latest B-movie in town) and flip the switch.

Nina and Bode enter this snow globe and encounter Dorothy and Ada. They chase after Nina as she rushes inside the house and turns the key, which seems to lock the house. Thing is, Bode is still out there.

Dorothy and Ada take off with the key and leave Nina on the ground after defeating her. The thing is, he actually has Boden locked inside the snow globe, but without a key, it looks like there’s no way out for our little tyke.

Kinsey returns home and takes control of the situation, determined to find the two demons before it’s too late. The thing is, both found their way to Captain Gideon, whose influence continues to grow. He instructs the two sisters to use their incredible powers to find more keys in the Locke House. More precisely, all of them.

Dorothy and Ada decide to use Bode as a bargaining chip, offering to let Nina go in exchange for all the keys. Of course, they have no chance of going for it.

Kinsey

Kinsey decides to stop them, using the Key of Hercules in the process. As for Nina, she uses the Mirror Key to get Dorothy inside. Finally, Nina and Kinsey work together and trap Ada inside as well, taking the key to the Snow Globe and freeing Boden from his prison before it’s too late. While the sisters are stopped, the same cannot be said for Gideon, who continues to hide and plot outside.

As for Tyler, he works construction out of town. She goes out for a drink with one of her co-workers, but isn’t sure if she’ll be going to the upcoming wedding. While this is going on, Nina calls Josh and he agrees to go to the big day as her plus one.

The last shot of the episode cuts to Gideon – he now has two keys. He squeezes them together and the ground emits a strange, ominous purple glow.

So Locke and Key return with a simmering conflict between Locke and Captain Gideon, who is now dead set on getting hold of all the keys.

As for our troubled family, we get our first taste of a dumb character decision this year as Nina runs away from her son instead of protecting her from these two sisters. I’m not entirely sure what he intends to do, but I’m sure it’s not a threat to Bode! And that’s before you start using those buttons without even thinking about it.

Thankfully the sisters are dispatched and eventually we’re back where we started, minus Gideon getting his hands on another switch.

It’s still early days, but this rather slow start sets the stage for whether the final season could be hit or miss. Let’s hope it breaks the bag in future chapters!
