Andor Season 1
Episode Number 2 Preview and Review
Andor season 1 episode 2 begins with the Kenari tribe on the move. Their target is a shipwreck. Kassa is among them and he leads the group forward through the forest. As they make their way through the clearing, you encounter a terrifying cliff. Going around this, the group continues and eventually find their target.
One of the crew is still alive and firing at the tribe. The Kenari children fight back with their rifles, but despite defeating him, the Kenari leader is shot dead.
Cassian sets out at dawn; the clanking sound of a metal crate echoes through the air. It heralds the start of the workday, as numerous manual laborers prepare for a hard day’s grant. Timm is suspicious of what Bix can do, and of course we know he’s in cahoots with Cassian.
After losing it at the market in the last episode, alarm bells start ringing when Timm sees the ballot entered into the computer. Pre-Mor authority Kenari is looking for a man. A Canary male that fits Cassia’s description. oh oh
Speaking of which, Cassian gets a frosty greeting from Maarva when he returns home. The bulletin reached him as well, and he knows it belongs to Cassian. Considering he whispers about his sister to the woman at the bar, Cassian realizes she’s compromised. Maarva presses for more details, but he just tells her he’s “messed up.”
Cassian leaves to meet Bix and reveals that he accidentally killed the two guards. Or at least the first one. He killed the second in cold blood.
Bix informs him about the contract. He has a buyer willing to take his NS-9 Starpath rig off his hands. Unfortunately, Timm is watching them from afar. As a result, he informs the Pre-Mor guards about Cassian Andor, deciding to take it to the authorities.
Sergeant Linus appears at the behest of Deputy Inspector Cyril, who encourages him to send her away and bring Andor along with the 12 guards. This man has the same ideologies as the deputy inspector and claims that the affiliate planets are “fermenting” and they need to do something to fix it.
It’s almost satirical how these guys are portrayed at times, but we’ll reserve judgment until we see more of them on this show.
As for Cassian, he goes where we get some important exposition on Kenari. It turns out that after a mining accident, the entire planet must be abandoned and is considered toxic. As far as we know, the children survived. Anyway, Cassian wants to escape to Tassana, but it will cost him 900 credits. He only has 500 so he bargains for 700 as a middle ground. Shutting up is expensive, but it seems to do the trick. First, Cassian must meet.
As long as the authorities show up to remove Cassian Andor, it will be fine. After Sergeant Linus briefs them all, he gives the floor to Cyril, who thanks them for being there, but his speech isn’t the most charismatic and ends rather awkwardly with scattered applause.
As the episode ends, we cut to Cassian Andor running towards the camera, intent on meeting his receiver – but time is of the essence.
Episode Review
It’s a good thing that 3 episodes aired today because Andor’s story is moving at a glacial pace. I appreciate that there’s a bigger story being told here, but scenes like the Kenari tribe moving through the forest spread throughout the episode add absolutely nothing to the story other than the killing of their leader.
Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for Andor to contact him, with the only real action coming from the declining Empire to claim their rewards. Even though they are revealed to be the bad guys, you can actually understand their situation and why they intend to take out Andor. I mean he killed one of the guards by accident and the other in cold blood.
With all that said, episode three is really going to kick things up a notch and I think we’re going to see some good action, especially if the Empire can get Andor before he trades.
