Andor Season 1
Episode Number 10 Preview and Review
The 10th episode of Andor begins with us on Narkina 5. Olaf’s body is dumped outside, and Cassian decides to retreat for the next 24 hours. This is their only opportunity to get out; while the guards roared. This is their signal when they replace Ulaf with another prisoner. Kino was silent for a while as Cassian told the others what had happened, he snapped. “No one comes out!” He screams.
In the morning, Kino has a change of heart and tells them everything they need to believe they’re already dead before he even thinks about triggering this suicide. The night shift won’t be notified because they have no way to send the message, but word will soon spread when the gang executes their plans.
Meanwhile, the rebels take a shipload of bait, much to Meero’s delight, while Mon continues his crusade, meeting with Davo Skuldun, who wants more kindness than money. Specifically, an invitation to Mo’s place so his son can meet his daughter. When Mon flatly refuses, Davo leaves empty-handed.
In Narkina 5, a new prisoner is brought in, but Andor struggles to release the pipe he cut at every turn. Finally, he manages to free it and the water pours out. Interestingly, he also manages to hold the pipe. The time comes and the group attacks. Flooding the room, causing the guards to shock the floor. However, he completely short-circuits the electricity and leaves the prisoners completely red-faced as they climb onto the tables.
After capturing the base, the hydroelectric power is completely shut down, but backup generators soon kick in. Kino goes to comms and confirms that every floor is cold and they need to stop and go outside. “We’ll never have a better chance to leave.” Kino pleads and a mantra for “one way out” begins as the inmates all work together to climb the levels and get out. All the guards hide behind one of the doors, knowing that they are outnumbered by about 5,000 prisoners.
When they surface, Kino freezes. He can’t swim and stagnates outside, all the other prisoners jump in and start swimming to safety.
The lieutenant contacts Lonnie, who tells him that Meero is getting closer to discovering the truth about the middleman and the stolen Imperial equipment. Lonnie is Luten’s inside man, and after learning what the ship and the Imperials are up to, Luten decides that killing 50 people is a sacrifice worth making to keep his mole. Lonnie gets cold feet, noting that he’s now a father and doesn’t know if he can keep this operation going for 6 years. Despite all this, Lüten is unable to sacrifice what he has won, calling him a hero and forcing him to return to the lion’s den.
As the episode draws to a close, we’re cut back from Andor, whose bases seem to have been overrun, and we’re running into a deserted area.
Episode Review
Andor’s massive prison escape continues, and there’s plenty of action to keep things interesting. There isn’t much in the way of various subplots, with Mon’s story this time mainly revolving around the Davo conversation. However, we do see more development with Luten, and it’s a nice touch to see him become an insider working with the Empire, and it shows the sacrifices everyone has to make to make sure this rebel alliance continues.
Most of the drama here revolves around Andor and the prison, with Kino doing good and getting everyone together to get out. However, it looks like this may be the last we see of him, as he is unable to jump into the water and presumably remains in prison until his doom.
There are a few more episodes left for this season, how it ends remains to be seen, but it looks like the rebel alliance is just starting to form, setting things up nicely for season two!
