Firefly Lane Season 2
Episode No 5 Recap And Review
Firefly Lane Season 2 Episode 5 begins with Tully preparing to start her documentary special about her father. Kate produces it and flirts with a sound engineer named Calvin. Cloud changes his mind and shows up to the recording to be ready for the interview. Kate is worried that this will be the first time Cloud and Tully talk about her father, but Tully says it’s the only way she can do it.
Cloud tells her that her father is the younger brother of Benedikt Binswanger, who abandoned her when she was pregnant. He left a letter saying that he had changed his mind about running away and was going to school in Europe. Benedict gave him money so that he would not tarnish the family name.
They investigate what happened to him and discover that he changed his name and distanced himself from his family after returning from Europe. He bought a small restaurant on Orcas Island. They go to Orcas to meet him, but the man died six weeks ago.
His wife agrees to talk to Tully and Cloud on camera, and she tells them that she never left a letter for Cloud. Their entire destruction was planned by Cloud’s father and Benedict. Until that day, none of them realized the truth.
The wife tells Tully that she met his father a long time ago when Benedikt Binswanger came to the restaurant looking for dirt. He treated the burn on his hand when he spilled hot coffee and even gave him the aloe plant.
Tully leaves broken and confronts Benedict Binswanger about his hand in ruining his mother’s life. A narcissistic jerk, Benedict refuses to own up to his mistakes and tells him that Cloud should thank him. Tully calls him a pathetic loner, a one-term governor who lost his brother to greed.
Meanwhile, Johnny buys an apartment and Kate visits, bringing him a houseplant. He tells her that he is in therapy and working to get better. Charlie shows up and tells Keith that he’s working on a book with Johnny. Kate leaves them and turns to see Tully.
Charlie and Johnny work late into the night on their book. Charlie hopes to stay here, but Johnny, seeing the gift of a ride home that Kate brought, calms him down and tells him he wants to sleep. She runs over to Kate and sees her drinking with Calvin through the kitchen window.

When Tully met her father, she was working to screw Benedict Binswanger and even went through his trash can during our timeline in 1980. He found a receipt from a restaurant on Orcas Island and thinks Benedikt Binswanger is hiding his mistress there. He shares his theory with Dan and plans to visit the island later.
Dan immediately decides to try to follow the story, but Tully is torn because he wants to stay back and watch Kate and Johnny accidentally take ecstasy, thinking it’s aspirin. Johnny is already at the top, but Kate tells him to get behind the story and that Mutt can look after them.
Dan and Tully go to the island and find that Benedict Binswanger is hiding some big secret on the island and everyone refuses to be interviewed. That’s when she met her father and spent the night on the island with Dan.
Back at the office, Kate and Johnny are doing strange things while ecstatic. They even rewrite the news script to make it soft instead of sad. Johnny asks Kate to move in with him and they end the day lovingly.
The next day, Johnny tries his best to make amends with the bosses, and Kate worries that she didn’t mean what she said while high. He asks her to move in with him again and Kate is delighted.

Kate is excited to go on a double date with Eugene and Brad. Kate loves Eugene and hopes to have her first kiss while they stargaze. They come up with gestures to let the other know when they want privacy and read a magazine article on how to hook a guy. Tully even practices what she learned from the magazine with Sean.
The date goes badly because Kate is nervous and can’t flirt comfortably. Brad and Tully are in good spirits and Tully asks for some privacy so Kate and Eugene leave to get ice cream. The kiss brings back Tully’s memory of running home when Pat molested her.
Sean sees her crying and looks at her. She says Brad doesn’t hurt her, but she wishes he was more comfortable with a normal, intimate relationship. Later we see her and Sean busy and someone notices them.
Episode Review
Benedict Binswanger being the villain of the story wasn’t a huge twist, but what will he do now that his secret is out? Does Tully have anything to do with that mysterious accident?
At this point, I was so tired of Johnny changing his mind every time. Does he still want to be with Kate or not? He always does, and it’s confusing. He seems to think that she will always be there, waiting for him to choose her. I know they have a history, but sometimes you have to close the book!
