Episode Recap
The Outer Banks Season 2 Episode 4 begins with John B and Sarah arriving in the dock. They don’t have money, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have plans. With gas canisters in hand, John B and Sarah are distracted to steal money from the table. It comes back to bite them when the pair chase after them at a gas station.
Meanwhile, JJ, Papa and Kie arrive in Charleston. They are a day late, but the deal still stands – the Pope must go in alone. The others reluctantly agree as Pope awaits his fate.
That connection is a woman named Limbrey, who knows all of his history, including the children’s gold before he lost it to Ward Cameron. It turns out that he actually financed his first development project. Back then, the pair were initially partners in their search for the Royal Merchant. That is, until Ward double-crossed him as well.
Limbrey also knows about Rafe – and has evidence to clear John B’s name in the form of audio footage from the runway. The Limbreys understand the value of leverage and want the key to Danish Tanni to exonerate John B.
Before they can agree to this, Limbrey leads Pope into an alley. Feeling the worst, Kie and JJ run back in their car. However, it is not an execution. At least not yet. The Pope is shown the tombstone of Tanni of Denmark, whose last words appear: “True treasure is at the foot of the angel.” Not knowing what this means, Papa manages to escape Limbrey and return to his friends.
Ironically, their truck passes John B, who was previously chased by the rich couple. These guys eventually cross paths and end up in familiar waters—literally. The group returns to the water and manages to get away from the authorities and return to their old resting place.
Together, they try to come up with a plan to clear John B’s name – but it certainly won’t be easy.
Elsewhere, Ward informs Rose that Sarah is still alive. He also confirms that Rafe was responsible for his shooting. Given that Rose tells the police a different story, she puts their family in the firing line in case Sarah testifies against them. If that happens, Rose promises to make the decision for her family.
Rafe continues to act erratically, heads to the bar and starts a fight with Kelce. However, Bob has news of his own. He saw John B and the gang and told him to wake up so they could hunt them down. A quick trip to Barry’s location allows him to grab a gun if things get rough.
With John B on the lookout, the Pogues start partying on the beach. They have bright lights, loud music, and lots of time for Papa and Ki to go off on their own. Their party is just the beacon Rafe and Barry need, as they’re armed to the teeth and desperate to find the gang. But John B and the others evade them by hiding the tree.
In the morning, Sarah decides to leave the group. At least two hours anyway. He wants to go back and see his Father, but the others aren’t so sure that’s a good idea. Sarah leaves anyway and goes to see Ward.
Face-to-face, Sara confirms that she will testify against Rafe if he doesn’t surrender. Ward doesn’t let it happen that way, standing by his son. Sara knows she’s going to drag them down and gives him an ultimatum – her or Rafe.
When Sara returns to the beach, the group causes a major disturbance. FBI agents arrive and surround them. JJ decides to hold on, but John B decides to turn himself in to avoid a nasty loss. One of the officers, Thomas, completely overpowers John B and throws him to the floor, stomping on him repeatedly.
Episode Review
It seems that John B has a job as he is at the mercy of the sheriff and the FBI agents who are chasing them. I mean, it wasn’t that hard considering the kids got home and started partying. I understand they are teenagers, but if you are trying to lay down, turn on the lights and play loud music, drink and party, not the best way to do it!
However, this episode manages to deepen the relationship between Papa and Kie, seeing them grow closer and share a kiss. Likewise, Sarah’s ties to Ward now seem well and truly severed, with Ward making his choice and sticking by his family, even if it means inadvertently turning his back on Sarah.
With John B beaten and arrested by the officers, his fate looks grim ahead. It looks like it will be up to Pope and the Limbreys to exonerate him and put Rafe behind bars. Despite some diversions, this episode continues to deliver compelling action.
