Episode Recap
Outer Banks Season 2 Episode 7 opens with a video confession confirming that Ward is responsible for all the murders. This, in turn, allows Rafe to be released. Ward’s estate was also divided equally, which is the process when a family is in mourning.
After Sarah and Rafe try to kill him, they fight again with no love lost between them. She tries to make things right and fulfill Ward’s wishes, begging him to stay together as a family for now.
The Pogues believe Ward deserved to be killed, but John B remains silent on the matter. On his way to Sarah, John confronts B about his reaction to seeing Ward killed.
Given that her own father was also killed, Sarah thought she could find solace in him, but she is conflicted given his indifference. He reaches for his necklace and decides to take some time off from it.
Instead, Sara goes to Topper’s house and stays the night. As you settle in, Rafe begins looking through the wardrobe, finding his identity after his father’s death.
But in the family accounts, things are terrible. They have 1 month to find the 1.7 million and it is currently unclear where exactly the gold is located. Rafe realizes that everything is falling apart around him and punches the wall. Only, it is hollow and behind it sits some important books and documents.
At school, Papa receives important documents of his own from his teacher. Danish Tanni’s diary is there, along with important clues to piece together the clues we’ve gotten so far.
Captain Limbrey was the one who stole the instrument, including the crucifix and gold at the time. The ship did not go down from Bermuda – it was looted.
Back on the beach, Pope realizes that Demark hid the cross and the gold in separate locations, considering how heavy the cross would be to move. It’s still unclear how and why, or even what this island room is, so JJ decides to go to a bonfire party to clear his mind.
That night, John B talks to a girl who starts flirting with him. From afar, Sarah notices this and is immediately jealous when she is with Topper.
The couple dances together as John B returns to this girl. Things inevitably turn into teenage angst and drama as the Pogues and the Kooks strike.
When Mrs. Limbrey is dying and in desperate need of the key, she goes to desperate measures to get what she wants. That evening, he summons his best army guards to hide in the woods, and the Pope is forced to hand over the key.
Back home, Rafe runs into his mother and becomes seriously paranoid. He picks up the knife and comes at her, claiming she’s lying. However, when Carla Limbrey appears and tries to look into the island room, she is distracted by a knock on the door.
As night turns to day, Sara returns to her place. Although the door is open, the place is empty. The island room turns out to be an upstairs office, and Sarah finds a hole in the wall. What is there? Well, we’ll have to wait and see!
Episode Review
After Ward’s death, Outer Banks slows down and instead leans more towards teenage angst and drama.
With Papa and Kie back on friendly terms, the focus turns to Sarah and John B. This love triangle is now coming into focus with a healthy dose of the misunderstanding trope.
The battle between the Pogues and the Kooks was perhaps a little contrived, but considering the genre, that’s not much of a problem.
While learning the truth about Limbrey and what he has to do with everything is certainly one of the highlights here, Rafe is very clearly going to fly off the handle quickly.
Either way, this episode slows the pace down a bit, although we’re now starting to get some big questions answered. I hope we get more from this in the next episodes.
